What Aleppo soap is?
It is the oldest soap in the world! Its first production date of 3500 years in the city of Aleppo in Syria. It is made from water, soda, and second pressed of olive oil and bay laurel oil.
This would be its appearance before use:
And this, its appearance after a daily use during a long time!
What are its characteristics?
The ingredients in this soap are free of synthetics, no solvents or perfume fixatives and not derived from animal fats. The traditional Aleppo soap is generally cubic in shape of non-grease brown aspect outside and green inside. It also has a round seal with the manufacturer’s name and the place of manufacture ( حلب wich means Aleppo in Arabic). Another feature, it floats in the water!
How do we use it?
It is particularly recommended for people with dry skin (which is my case) but also in cases of acne, eczema or psoriasis.
Besides the shower time, you can give other uses:
- – As make-up remover
- – As shampoo
- – As a facial mask
- – As for shaving soap
- – To wash delicates garments
- – And one thing I have not tested yet: like anti-cloths moths on the wardrobe
What soap to choose?
On the market there are several types of traditional Aleppo soap:
- – One, which contains between 5% and 15% Laurel oil (the one I use): it is the most economical soap suitable for all skin types and for the whole family
- – One, which contains between 20% and 25% Laurel oil: it is most suitable for sensitive skin soap.
- – One, which contains between 30% and 40% Laurel oil: this is the most expensive of the three and it is more suitable for people who have very sensitive skin with serious skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.
What do I think?
After daily use for over a year, I can say that this is one of my basic hygiene products. I use it for cleansing me, to wash my most delicate clothes, also occasionally as a shampoo and Mr. »you should drink more water » also use it for shaving!
